Two Executives at The Simon Companies

BRAINTREE, MA – The Simon Companies, a professional developer, owner and manager of commercial and multifamily real estate is pleased to announce that two members of its management team have been named national officers of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), an international professional organization for property managers.
Christopher E. Mellen, vice president of The Simon Companies, has been appointed a national senior vice president of IREM. Robert E. Cuttle, a regional property manager with Simon, has been appointed as a regional vice president at the national level of the group, which has more than 19,000 members.
“Both Robert and I are extremely proud of our involvement with the Institute of Real Estate Management,” Mr. Mellen said. “IREM is dedicated to fostering educated, ethical and professional business practices in real estate management, and those values are shared by all of us at The Simon Companies.”
Mr. Mellen oversees The Simon Companies’ property management division, which provides expertise in managing both market-rate and subsidized multifamily units and commercial office properties. He has more than 30 years of property management experience and holds IREM’s Certified Property Manager (CPM) designation and its Accredited Residential Manager (ARM) certification. Mr. Mellen also is a licensed real estate broker in Massachusetts.
Long active in IREM’s Boston chapter, Mr. Mellen has held numerous leadership positions, including that of president. He also has been active in IREM at the national level, where he is a member of the IREM Executive Committee and previously served as a regional vice president. Among his responsibilities as senior vice president of IREM is oversight of the group’s national legislative activities.
Mr. Mellen is on the real estate faculty of Boston University and is a faculty member of IREM. He has twice been named “Real Estate Executive of the Month” by the New England Real Estate Journal. He earned a bachelor’s degree in real estate from Temple University, a master’s degree in management from Boston University and a master’s certificate from BU in project management. He resides in Dedham, MA.
With more than 20 years of industry experience, Mr. Cuttle is responsible for the regional management of some of The Simon Companies’ largest residential properties. He will serve a two-year term as regional vice president, providing oversight for the activities of IREM chapters in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. Mr. Cuttle, who holds IREM’s Certified Property Manager designation, has held numerous positions with IREM’s Greater Rhode Island chapter and served as chapter president in 2009. He was the recipient of IREM’s “Rising Star Award” in 2007 and was honored as the Greater Rhode Island chapter’s Certified Property Manager of the Year in 2010. Nationally, he has served as vice chairman of IREM’s Education Committee and been a member of the IREM Job Analysis Task Force.
Mr. Cuttle is a resident of Richmond, R.I., and has been a member of the town’s Zoning Board of Review since 2009.
The Institute of Real Estate Management, an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors, is the only professional real estate management association serving both the multifamily and commercial real estate sectors. With 80 U.S. chapters, 12 international chapters and several other partnerships around the globe, IREM also serves as an advocate on issues affecting the real estate management industry.
